Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and Vishwa Hindi Divas 2024

On January 9, 2023, the Embassy of India in Ankara organised the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and Vishwa Hindi Divas. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is observed every year on January 9 to celebrate the contributions of the Overseas Indian community and Indian expats living abroad towards the development of India. This day marks the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to Mumbai on January 9, 1915. Vishwa Hindi Divas has its roots in the first World Hindi Conference that took place on January 10, 1975, in Nagpur, India. Since then, Vishwa Hindi Divas is celebrated globally.

A special message from Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, on the occasion of Vishwa Hindi Divas was read out.

The event was attended by members of Indian diaspora/ expats; teachers and learners of Hindi language; Hindi enthusiasts; friends of India; lovers of Indian Culture; and members of the Embassy. Distinguished speakers including Associate Professor Ms Esra Büyükbahçeci (Ankara University); Associate Professor Dr Yalcin Kayali (Ankara University); Associate Professor Dr Omair Anas (Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University); and Mrs Derya, a tourism professional in Ankara addressed on the occasion and shared their experiences.

As a part of Vishwa Hindi Divas, a 'Hindi Competition' was organised by Ankara University Students which included Hindi poetry recitation, Hindi song singing and Story telling competition. A play on Akbar-Birbal story was performed by the Ankara University Students, which was greatly appreciated by the audience. Embassy members also participated in the programme. The participants of Vishwa Hindi Divas and winners of the competition were also felicitated during the event.
