Renunciation of citizenship

An Indian national, including a minor, on acquisition of foreign nationality and Passport, is not entitled to retain his/her Indian Passport and has to immediately surrender his/her passport for cancellation.
Renunciation of Indian nationality is irrevocable and due care must be exercised in making an application for this purpose. An appointment will thereafter be made for the applicant to be interviewed at the Embassy and sign a declaration that the renunciation is voluntary and that the applicant understands its consequences.

Below are the requirements for renunciation:
List of documents for renunciation of Indian Citizenship (If applicant got Turkish citizenship)
•     Duly filled in online application form for renunciation of Citizenship ( https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/#   ) & for surrender certificate (https://portal3.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.html  )
•     Original Indian passport with copy
•     Original Turkish passport with copy
•     Copy of Turkish ID Card
•     Proof of residence (from Nufus Mudurlugu)
•     Naturalization certificate translated in English, notarized and apostilled by Governorship or District Governorship in Istanbul
•     Application in writing that applicant wants to surrender his/her Indian citizenship
•     Consent letter from both parents for renunciation of citizenship (in regard to minor's application)
 
i) Form XXII (regarding declaration of renunciation of citizenship)
ii) Particulars form (This form also has to be signed by a voucher, in the presence of the Embassy Officer, who has to be another Indian citizen, in the presence of the Consular Officer)
iii) Register of Declaration of Renunciation of Indian citizenship
•     Passport copy of the voucher
* Fee for renunciation of Indian citizenship USD 112/- to be paid by cash and in Us Dollars only. If any penalties, you will be advised at the time submission.

PLEASE NOTE THAT:
•    After renunciation, you will be given a letter stating that your Indian passport has been cancelled and that you are no longer an Indian citizen.
•    Your cancelled passport will also be returned to you.
•    The renunciation certificate will be given to the applicant only at the Embassy
Premises
•     On acquisition of foreign citizenship, all Indian nationals should surrender the
passport (if acquired before 31/5/2010) or renounce citizenship (after 31.5.2010).
•    Minors who have acquired citizenship (including Certificate of Citizenship)
must surrender their passport (if acquired before 31.5.2010) or renounce citizenship (if acquired after 31.5.2010).
 
PENALTY FOR NOT SURRENDERING THE PASSPORT AFTER ACQUIRING ANOTHER NATIONALITY
A person (including minor) is liable to be penalized if after acquisition of foreign nationality, he/she retains the Indian passport beyond three years or travels on it beyond the grace period of three months, on a passport whose final validity expired on or after 01.01.2005.
The fine would be imposed at the following rates:
•     Retention of Indian passport up to period of 3 years –No Fine
•     Retention of Indian passport beyond the grace period of 3 years - *Rs.10,000/-.
•     Travel using Indian Passport after acquiring foreign nationality-
Within three months – No Penalty
For each travel after the grace period of 3 months -*Rs.10,000/- (subject to a maximum of *Rs. 50,000)
•    If the Indian passport got reissued (after obtaining foreign citizenship/passport) an additional fine of*Rs.25000/- would be charged.
