‘India by the Bosphorus’- 2019
A cultural extravaganza celebrating India in Turkey



            The Embassy of India in Turkey along entertainment company Teamwork Arts,in partnership with Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, celebrated from March-April 2019, a Festival of India titled India by the Bosphorus(IBB). The festival showcased India's distinctive artistic flavour to Turkey and harmony between the two countries through diverse expressions of performing and visual arts, food and popular culture, creating a space for rich dialogue and multi-faceted cultural exchange. The festival,was the first of its kind in Turkey, providing audiences with a keen flavour of India’s vibrant artistic and cultural identity while encouraging partnerships between the two countries.

            The festival covered aflavour of fusion of renowned violinist Dr L. Subramaniam and celebrated singer KavitaKrishnamurti in collaboration with the Presidential Symphony Orchestra at CSO, Ankara (21 & 22 March); A fashion show by TarunTahilianititled, ‘Passage and Renaissance of Indian Fashion’, at the Marmara, Esma Sultan (15 April);  Odissi performance by Nrityagram - Smarana- that explores the two thousand-year-old dance tradition, (24-28 April); Indian folk music bycontemporary folk singer Harpreet, with his sonorous voice, presented Rumi and Faizpoetry in Ankara, Istanbul and Konya (17-22 April); DadiPudumjee’sIshara Puppet Theatre Trust brought to Turkey, Gandhi’s message on non-violence and Satyagraha in a non-verbal performance titled Images of Truth (18-21 April); A Photo exhibition on rare archival photographs of Mahatma Gandhi by the acclaimed press photographer Kulwant Roy titled Gandhi@150was displayed at the National Library, Ankara (24-28 April);  A.K. Chettiar's Mahatma Gandhi- The 20th Century Prophet, the first documentary was also screened at the National Library; Indian Food Festival by the Indian celebrity Chef Picu at HiltonSA (17-22 April); workshop on Yoga at Ankara and Istanbul by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and a Bollywood Dance workshop by Gilles Chuyen, at  Ankara & Istanbul.
