About Us Attestation of Bachelorhood Certificate

Question: How do I get a bachelorhood certificate attested?

Answer: A Certificate of bachelorhood/single-status/eligibility to get married can be issued by a competent court/ SDM having jurisdiction of the area of the residential address of the applicant. This can be in the form of a certificate/ affidavit notarized by SDM which is required to be counter-attested by the Home Department of the State concerned. Thereafter, it is to be attested/apostilled by the Attestation Section of the Consular, Passport & Visa (CPV) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.

Document once apostilled by MEA, New Delhi, it is not required to be further authenticated by the Indian Embassy in Ankara for use in Turkey because both India and Turkey is member of the Apostille Convention 1961. However, if the Turkish authorities insist for the Embassy’s attestation following procedure will be followed.

  1. Embassy will attest only those documents apostilled by MEA.
  2. Personal presence of the applicant.
  3. Valid passport in original and photocopy (first and last page).
  4. Turkish Residence Card.
