Prayer Session  to Commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

           Embassy of India, Ankara commemorated the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with Prayer Session in the Chancery Auditorium. The Gandhi’s 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations started from Oct 02, 2018 and continued throughout the year with events like Peace Walk, Releasing of Gandhi Stamps by India Post, Digital Projection of Gandhi Images, Mahatma Gandhi Lecture Series, Gandhian Food Festival, Gandhi Photo Exhibition, Gandhi Puppetry Show, Khadi Exhibition, Mahatma Gandhi Online Quiz, Releasing of Gandhi stamp by Turkish Post, Anthology by Prof. Abdullah Atalar, spread throughout the year.

          On Oct 02, 2019, the Prayer Session ceremony began with the reciting of Gandhiji’s favorite bhajan  Vaishnavo Jan To, which was sung by Turkish singer  Seher Ça?atay. Later a multi-religious prayer, comprising prayers from Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam and Sikhism, was also observed with great reverence. Ambassador Sanjay  Bhattacharyya remarked that Gandhi is not only inspiration to the Indians but the revered personality of the world. He also highlighted principles followed by the Gandhiji are still relevant in the present context. The event was attended by diplomatic community, Turkish nationals and Indian Diaspora. Ambassador of Bangladesh, higher officials from Turkish Post, Professors from Indology department, Ankara University and many others shared their views on Mahatma Gandhiji.

A small video on the life of Mahatma Gandhiji was shown along with the slide presentation of the various events celebrated by the Embassy of India in Ankara. The session ended with presentation of gifts to the winners of the Mahatma Gandhi Online Quiz Competition held on the Social Media by the Embassy.

An exhibition of Khadi clothes and pictures on life of Mahatma Gandhi was also on display for the attendees.
