The Embassy of India in Ankara hosted the inaugural Mahatma Gandhi Lecture at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, 21st December 2018 at the Embassy of India, CinnahCaddesi 77, Cankaya, as part of Gandhiji’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations.


India is planning year-long activities across the world to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in consultation with respective governments, culminating in a grand ceremony at the United Nations in New York.  


The Mahatma Gandhi lecture will be delivered by eminent Indologist, Prof.Korhan Kaya of Ankara University on “Indian Literature: Influences and Exchanges” tracing the rich interaction and cultural exchanges between India and Turkey.  Prof. Kaya, who heads the Indology Department, has led generations of students, scholars and researchers in the study of Hindi and Sanskrit and contributed tremendously through the translation of ancient Indian literature and texts into Turkish.  Prof. Kaya’s lecture will provide another bridge connecting the Indian and Turkish civilizations.
